An ocean wave. Fresh citrus. A vase of peonies in spring. When it comes to capturing the essence of a moment, a place or a memory, nothing matches the power of fragrance.
The relationship between emotion and the sense of smell is well-documented. Scientists theorize that fragrance owes its inimitable force to biology: The olfactory bulb in the nose connects with the brain’s limbic system, which oversees emotion and memory.
While unbidden recollections may arise at any chance aroma, people can also rely on curated fragrances to intentionally relive joyful experiences. At The Ritz-Carlton, select properties enjoy bespoke fragrances that, with time, become as integral to one’s stay as the view or the accommodations. From seaside luxury to adventures across the Pacific, you can recall the best moments of your stay simply by lighting a candle, spritzing a room spray or employing a diffuser.
New York
New York is home to countless icons, but if one feature could stand in as a symbol for this global metropolis, it just might be Central Park. No wonder, then, that The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park chose its “front garden” as the inspiration behind its signature scent, 50 Central Park.
For many of our guests, our hotel has become a home away from home when visiting New York City. The scent creates that added special touch of comfort.
Winfred van Workum, General Manager, The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park
Taking its cues from Central Park’s natural floral fragrance, 50 Central Park showcases notes of elderflower, mountain mint and ripe strawberries. Its bewitching aroma may recall a relaxing day at the hotel’s La Prairie Spa, where guests can indulge in both a signature massage ritual and a pedicure inspired by the fragrance. Or it may remind one of a day spent in the park itself. The hotel offers an Inspiration Map, which pinpoints areas in Central Park that gave rise to the fragrance that, as Workum puts it, “evokes the park’s delicate beauty.”
“We strive to create a one-of-a-kind, memorable experience for every guest,” Workum adds, and 50 Central Park plays a significant role in achieving exactly that.
Bal Harbour
Miami may be known for its white-sand beaches, turquoise waves and glittering nightlife, but The Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour, Miami brings its own elevated lens to the destination. Set along a peninsula in North Miami Beach, the hotel overlooks a semi-private stretch of coastline where guests can while away the better part of their stay in a private beach bed.
Other amenities speak to the diversity of luxury experiences available. Guests can indulge in craft cocktails and Sunday brunch at the oceanfront Artisan Beach House restaurant. They can take advantage of the hotel’s Art Access pass to explore Miami’s top museums and private collections. Or they can jumpstart their wellness routine at the acclaimed Exhale spa. Whatever one chooses to do at this coastal retreat, the experience is something to savor
Ocean Aria, the hotel’s exclusive fragrance, invites guests to relive the lush magic of their stay. Notes of saltwater, jasmine and lavender mingle in a nod to Miami’s landscape, while a hint of bergamot evokes the sunshine. A base of musk and oakmoss balances the lighter floral and citrus notes while paying tribute to the misty, mysterious terrain of the nearby Everglades.
Dallas
To stay at The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas is to experience the heart of this Texan city. Soaring ceilings and rich finishes speak to Dallas’ imposing personality, while sophisticated detailing and distinctive moments envelop guests in a warm embrace of hospitality.
Dallas looms large in the country’s imagination, and guests can indulge their appetite for adventure at the hotel. There’s a resident Guacamologist™, for example, who leads coveted tastings, and there are spa treatments inspired by the margaritas of celebrity-chef Dean Fearing. Then there is Fearing’s Restaurant, where locals and visitors can tuck into elevated American cuisine tinged with the heat of Southwestern traditions.
Like the hotel, the Cedarwood & Rose fragrance pays tribute to its hometown by blending aromas that feel both strong and soft. Cedarwood, fir resin and sandalwood intermingle with grapefruit and mandarin for a rich, grounded aroma infused with delicate notes of rose and jasmine.
Available as a candle and a room spray, this fragrance is ideal for layering as it summons memories of luxurious accommodations, soothing spa days and leisurely dinners.
Rancho Mirage, California
With its timeless desert landscape and Palm Springs-infused glamour, The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage resides in a category all its own. This is a destination of flaming sunsets, where neon hues of pink and yellow splash across the sky. Where spa rituals draw inspiration from the land’s earliest inhabitants. And where luxury can be a poolside cabana just as easily as a steak dinner overlooking Coachella Valley.
To express the oasis-like qualities of this desert resort, the Mirage fragrance features aromas of satsuma mandarins and lily of the valley that call to mind sunrise hikes and hours of restorative spa treatments. Notes of apricot, passionfruit and sugared black currant round out the fragrance, which is available as a candle, room spray and reed diffuser.
Hong Kong and Tianjin
Whether you stay at The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, a soaring ode to modern luxury in the city center, or The Ritz-Carlton, Tianjin, an elegant retreat inspired by the hotel’s distinctive, neoclassic architecture, Black Orchid captures the enigmatic essence of China.
Combining fresh green notes with the spicy aroma of Baltic amber and patchouli, Black Orchid is a richly layered fragrance with surprising versatility. The floral notes, for example, may summon memories of skyline views at the Michelin-starred Tin Lung Heen in Hong Kong. Or it might call to mind the China Rose-inspired treatments enjoyed at The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Tianjin.
Other scents are equally evocative. The deep notes of Baltic amber speak to nights at the OZONE rooftop lounge in Hong Kong, while the patchouli feels synonymous with exploring the historical district of Tianjin. With Black Orchid available as a candle and a reed diffuser, the magic of China is never far away.
